Things to do in Lagos, alone or with someone
A starting list of public places in Lagos that are good to visit alone or with someone, each linked to its own official page. We list places, not event dates, because dates go stale.
What are fun things to do in Lagos?
Good public options include art and culture venues such as Nike Art Gallery, Terra Kulture and Freedom Park, and nature at Lekki Conservation Centre. Check each venue’s own page for current opening times, prices and events before you go, because these change.
Culture and art
Freedom Park (Lagos Island)
A cultural venue on the grounds of the former Broad Street Prison, on Lagos Island. Its site lists film screenings, live music, karaoke nights, exhibitions, guided tours and festivals. Good for: a first meeting with something to look at, or a relaxed evening with friends. freedomparklagos.com
Nike Art Gallery (Lekki)
Run by the Nike Art Foundation, founded in 1983 by Chief Nike Okundaye. Its site describes galleries (batik, sculpture, painting and more), art workshops, an art shop and guided tours, and notes you can book tours through the website. Good for: a daytime outing with natural conversation. nikeartfoundation.com
Terra Kulture (Victoria Island)
An arts and culture centre with a restaurant, bookshop and theatre space on Victoria Island. Good for: a meal plus a show or exhibition if one is on. Check the site for the current programme. terrakulture.com
Nature and outdoors
Lekki Conservation Centre (Lekki)
A nature reserve managed by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, known for its canopy walkway. Good for: a daytime walk. Opening times and fees differ between sources and change, so use the official page or call before you travel. NCF: Lekki Conservation Centre
Ways to meet people while doing things
- Go to the same thing twice. A weekly screening, class or run beats a one-off event for meeting people.
- Choose activities with a focus. A gallery, a film, a workshop: conversation starts itself.
- Ask someone to come. “I am going to X on Saturday, want to come?” is easier than it feels.
- Alone is fine. Galleries, films, workshops and live music are all normal to attend alone, and a good place to start talking to people.
Things to do alone in Lagos
Pick activities where being alone is normal: a gallery visit, a film, a workshop, a walk somewhere busy, live music. Arrive early so you are not entering a group already formed, and keep the first plan short.
Budget, rainy season and the weekend
For budget and rainy-day ideas by situation, see finding someone to go out with in Lagos and first-meeting ideas. We do not publish a “this weekend” events list yet: an out-of-date events page is worse than none, and we only publish one when someone can keep it current weekly from official sources.
Getting there and getting home
Lagos distances are travel times. Check traffic and weather, pick somewhere near one of you, and plan your own way home. See the first-meeting safety checklist.
Checked on 2026-10-01 against each venue’s own site or its operator’s site. We have no commercial relationship with any place listed. Places can close, move or change terms: tell us if one has, via Support. Next planned additions: Mainland and Island venue roundups, researched area by area.
